Mark Scholz

President

As CAODC President, Mark helps serve the interests of the Canadian drilling and service rig industries by championing their responsible stewardship and long-term sustainability.

Sharing a passion for the oil and gas industry and the benefits it provides to so many Canadians, Mark uses his position to educate and engage government, the public, and all other stakeholders on its importance and impacts from coast to coast to coast.

Mark is also a director of the Energy Safety Canada Board of Directors, the safety association of the upstream oil and gas industry, and a member of its Governance and Compensation Committee. He is an active member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and has completed the Not-for-Profit Governance Essential Program through the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Mark holds a degree in economics and a degree in political science from the University of Calgary. He completed a Master of Business Administration degree from the Haskayne School of Business.


Steven Dale Berg

Vice President, Operations

Before working at the Association, Steven was a certifying Professional Technologist for his own company that repaired drilling and service rig equipment domestically and internationally.

During that time
Steven also worked as a project manager for CAODC member companies, served as a volunteer with CAODC on both Drilling and Service Rig committees, and championed the creation of IRP 13 on behalf of the Association.

Steven grew up in Sherwood Park and Calgary and graduated from SAIT in 2000 with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology. After 10 years of experience he gained the title of Professional Technologist allowing him to certify Drilling and Service Rig Equipment.

John Bayko

Vice President, Communications

John began his career in the Canadian oil and gas industry in 2006 as a communications specialist in the drilling and well servicing sector.

As VP Communications at CAODC, John helps coordinate a small team of dedicated, multi-skilled professionals who help promote the Association's vision and mission in a rapidly evolving media environment. With a focus on providing member value through customer service and cost optimization, John and his team manage internal and external communicaitons initiatives that include government relations, advocacy, internal systems development, and member media.

John holds a Bachelor of Physical Education and Master of Arts in Communications and Technology from the University of Alberta, and an Applied Communications Diploma from Camosun College in Victoria, BC.


Pam Butt

Executive Assistant

Pam is the Executive Assistant at CAODC and provides administrative support to staff, the Board of Directors and Executive Committees. She also looks after new memberships and membership inquiries.

Pam is a SAIT graduate and has worked in a variety of sectors including oil and gas, education and arts, wholesale distribution and logistics, legal, engineering, human resources, and community programs.


Patrick Brooks

Communications Specialist, Member Media

Patrick brings more than 25 years of experience to his role of Communications Specialist, including eight years of teaching at Mount Royal University.

As a Communications Specialist, Patrick is responsible for the editing, design, publishing, and distribution of The Hitch, our Association magazine. When he’s not working on The Hitch, Patrick is busy coordinating events such as Speaker Series breakfast presentations, the AGM and Annual Luncheon, and the Associate Member Breakfast. Patrick also oversees the updating of the Hitch Online, a blog counterpart to the magazine, and is frequently called upon for brand management duties whenever the CAODC brand is involved. Additionally, Patrick helps the communications team develop, support, and maintain the grassroots advocacy campaign, Oil Respect.

Immediately prior to joining CAODC, Patrick was on the communications team at Savanna Energy Services Corp. where he was first introduced to the complex world of oil and gas. Patrick holds a Bachelor of Design degree from ACAD as well as a Master of Arts in Professional Communication from Royal Roads University.


Jess Sinclair

Communications Specialist, Media Relations

Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Jess is a graduate of the University of Regina’s Political Science and Religious Studies programs. She made the move to Alberta in 2014 to work for Nordstrom Canada, but soon transitioned into working in public affairs.

Jess co-chaired campaigns for former Premier Jim Prentice before assuming the position of communications manager for Southern Alberta at the Calgary Premier’s Office. Jess has consulted for a variety of oil and gas advocacy organizations, including the Canada Action Coalition and the Modern Miracle Network and currently works as a communications specialist for the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors.

As part of the communications team, Jess oversees media relations and contributes to the Association’s advocacy, government relations and member communications efforts.
